Recent Academic Works
Dr. Deniz Eren Erişen has co-authored several recent studies on biomaterials, including biodegradable metal alloys for stents, bioactive polymer coatings, and antimicrobial materials for catheters. His work in degradable magnesium alloys for carotid artery stents showed feasibility and safety in vitro and in vivo. With colleagues, he developed a polydopamine-chitosan coating to improve metallic implants and a chitosan-copper material to prevent catheter infections. These innovations aim to enhance biocompatibility and combat complications with medical devices.
Recent academic works published as first other at past 5 years,
- Biosafety and biodegradation studies of AZ31B magnesium alloy carotid artery stent in vitro and in vivo¹: This article evaluates the safety and degradation of a biodegradable stent made of AZ31B magnesium alloy on nerve cells. The authors found that the stent had low cytotoxicity and did not cause psychomotor disability in animal models. They concluded that the stent was feasible and safe for carotid artery stenosis.
- A novel chitosan and polydopamine interlinked bioactive coating for metallic biomaterials²: This article describes a new coating method for metallic biomaterials using chitosan and polydopamine. The authors showed that the coating had good antibacterial, antiplatelet, and biocompatible properties, as well as enhanced corrosion resistance and mechanical stability. They suggested that the coating could improve the performance of metallic biomaterials such as stents.
- Synthesis of chitosan-Cu based bioactive material for coating catheters: in vitro cytotoxicity evaluation³: This article reports a new bioactive material for coating catheters using chitosan and copper nanoparticles. The authors demonstrated that the material had antibacterial activity against common pathogens and low cytotoxicity against human cells. They proposed that the material could prevent catheter-related infections and inflammation.
